The NSW Liberals have voted down legislation that would give presumptive compensation rights to firies following a cancer diagnosis.
NSW is one of the last states to slash red tape for firefighters, to access compensation, which would have applied to both career and volunteer fire fighters.
Labor’s bill was the result of 12 months of consultation in line with legislation in other states and territories and had the full support of the Fire Brigade Employees Union and the Rural Fire Service Association.
How disappointing that the NSW Government are happy to play petty politics with firies’ lives.
Labor respects the efforts of our firefighters and will do what it takes to protect them in the unfortunate circumstances of a cancer diagnosis.
